Toast with peanut butter and applesauce. It’s a staple, and apparently very American. But my Australian family is loving it. Australians are always asking me, “What is it with Americans and peanut butter?” I really can’t say… all I know is that it completes me. And it completes this homemade applesauce as well.
If you love applesauce you should consider investing in an apple corer like this one. Not only is it SO FUN to use (the apples become slinkys!) but it’s really efficient too.
I core a big bowl of apples, throw them in a pot with heaps of cinnamon, some fresh ground nutmeg, and one lemon peel. You can add a bit of water to the pot if you need to, but the juice from the apples should be sufficient. And just let it simmer for a few hours until it’s the consistency you like. No added sugar necessary. I like to use granny smiths and any sort of red apple that’s a bit sweeter.
