(Nikon F70 + 85mm f/1.8G + Fuji 200 Walgreens $1 sale + Pakon scanner) Digital can’t match film for the way extreme highlights are dealt with. Film has something like a ‘ceiling’ with its highlights where it can hold on more when shooting into the brilliant light coming from the sun. Digital will get up to the brightest it can possibly deal with and then cope no more. To help with this, you can underexpose with digital. With current technology it never can look as good in my opinion. Look how there is colour in the sky all the way up to the rim of the sun, and then it goes to white cleanly and gradually. With digital you can see when the red, green and blue channels individually gave out. It’s not so pretty.
