(Image below taken with a Nikon D800 + 85mm f/1.4) I like shooting tall mountains with lenses over 50mm, because the size and grandeur isn’t distorted. People often ask me if they need an ultra-wide angle lens for an overseas trip. I always say that having a wide angle lens can actually work against you. Fitting everything in a shot can make everything look tiny. Wide angle lenses are actually the hardest to get right, and it’s a skill to know when is best to use one. Travel with a 50mm is great, or if you want two lenses and have money to burn, a 35mm and 85mm has everything covered. There is no need to go super wide. Stitch images if you need to, there are really easy and free programs for this now readily available.
I love Seattle, and I’m thankful that we get to go there once or twice a year for weddings – the perfect excuse to visit family in this corner of the US. I really want to climb to the summit but am a little freaked out by the idea, considering people die every year on the mountain.
